How To Set Up A Static IP
A static IP address means your device always uses the same internal IP address on your home network. This can be helpful for gaming consoles, security cameras, printers, or port forwarding, where you don't want the IP address to change.
Step 1: Log in to Your Modem or Router
Make sure your computer or device is connected to your modem via Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
Open a web browser and go to:
Enter your admin username and password. These details are printed on the label underneath your modem unless you've changed them.
Step 2: Find the DHCP or Address Reservation settings
In the router menu, navigate to: Advanced → Network → DHCP Server → Address Reservation (the wording may vary slightly by model, look for "DHCP," "LAN," or "IP Address Reservation").
This section lists all devices currently connected to your network.
Step 3: Add Your Device
Click Add or + to create a new reservation.
Choose your device from the list of connected devices or manually enter its MAC address if not listed.
Enter the IP address you want to assign (for example, 192.168.1.100).
Click Save or Apply to confirm the change.
Step 4: Restart Your Device
Disconnect your device from the Wi-Fi or unplug its Ethernet cable.
Reconnect it after a few seconds.
It should now always use the same IP address when connected to your network.
Important Notes
Pick an IP address within your router's range (usually 192.168.1.2 – 192.168.1.254).
Avoid using an IP address that's already assigned to another device.
If you're unsure, let the router automatically suggest an available address.
For network stability, it's best to reserve static IPs for only a few key devices.
