What Is A Service Qualification Check?

Before Ezi Broadband can connect your home or business to the nbn®, we first need to confirm what type of internet technology is available at your address.

This process is called a Service Qualification Check (or SQ Check).

It's a quick lookup that ensures your plan, speed, and equipment are all compatible with the nbn® infrastructure at your location.

Why a Service Qualification Check is important

Not all addresses in Australia connect to the nbn® the same way. Different areas use different access technologies, which can affect your internet speeds and installation requirements.

A Service Qualification Check helps us:

  • Identify which nbn® technology type is available at your property
  • Confirm whether your premises is already nbn®-ready or requires installation
  • Determine the maximum speeds supported at your address
  • Avoid ordering the wrong type of service or equipment

In short, it's how we make sure your connection is set up right the first time.

How the check works

When you enter your address on the Ezi Broadband website, our system performs a real-time search against the nbn® network database.

This database returns information such as:

  • Your connection type (e.g. FTTP, FTTN, FTTC, HFC, Fixed Wireless, or Satellite)
  • The Service Class, which tells us if your property is ready for activation
  • Any notes about existing infrastructure, such as "equipment installed" or "technician required"

The check takes just a few seconds and happens automatically — you'll see available Ezi plans immediately after entering your address.

nbn® technology types explained

Here's what the Service Qualification Check might return:

  • FTTP (Fibre to the Premises): Fibre runs directly to your home for the fastest speeds.
  • FTTN (Fibre to the Node): Fibre to a street cabinet, with the final section using copper cabling.
  • FTTC (Fibre to the Curb): Fibre to the pit outside your home, then a short copper connection.
  • HFC (Hybrid Fibre Coaxial): Uses the same coaxial cable network as pay TV.
  • Fixed Wireless: Connects via a nearby nbn® wireless tower.
  • Satellite: Used in remote or regional areas where fixed lines aren't available.

Each technology type supports different speeds and may require different equipment.

If your address isn't found

In some cases, the nbn® database may not recognise a new or recently subdivided address. If this happens, our provisioning team will manually verify your location directly with nbn® Co and confirm the correct service details — usually within 1–2 business days.

What happens after the check

Once your address has been qualified:

  1. You'll see the plans available for your connection type.
  2. You can place your order online in just a few minutes.
  3. Our provisioning team will activate your new Ezi Broadband service using the correct configuration for your premises.

There's no cost or obligation for the qualification — it's simply part of our process to make setup smoother.
