This guide walks you through the complete process of setting up your TP-Link whole home mesh system using the Aginet app. Follow each step carefully to ensure your network is configured correctly.
The steps in this guide use the HX510 as an example, but the process is the same for all compatible TP-Link mesh devices.
Before You Start
Please complete the following checks before opening the Aginet app:
1. Disable Power-Saving Mode on Your Phone
Power-saving mode can interrupt the setup process by restricting background data, Wi-Fi scanning, or app activity. To avoid setup failures or timeouts, make sure power-saving mode is turned off on your phone before you begin.
2. Grant Local Network Access (iOS 14 and later only)
If you are using an iPhone or iPad running iOS 14 or higher, you must give the Aginet app permission to access your local network. Without this permission, the app will not be able to detect your mesh device.
To enable this:
• Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad
• Go to Privacy & Security
• Tap Local Network
• Find Aginet in the list and toggle it ON
Setup Steps
Step 1 - Download and Install the Aginet App
Search for Aginet in the Google Play Store (Android) or Apple App Store (iOS) and install it on your smartphone or tablet.
Tip: Make sure you download the official Aginet app published by TP-Link. Check the developer name before installing.

Step 2 - Log In or Create a TP-Link ID
Open the Aginet app. You will be prompted to log in. Choose one of the following options:
• Log in with an existing TP-Link ID or TP-Link Cloud account
• Sign up to create a new TP-Link ID
• Tap Continue without TP-Link ID to proceed without an account
Note: If you skip login, some cloud features such as remote management and firmware update notifications may not be available.

Step 3 - Connect Your Phone to the Mesh Device's Default Wi-Fi
Before the app can detect your device, your phone needs to be connected to the mesh device's default Wi-Fi network. The default network name (SSID) is printed on the label on the bottom of your device and usually appears in the format WIFI_XXXX.
Go to your phone's Wi-Fi settings and connect to this network. Once connected, return to the Aginet app.
Note: Some phones may connect to the default SSID automatically. If so, the Aginet app will display a notification that it has found the device.

Step 4 - Select an Operation Mode
The app will prompt you to choose how you would like the device to operate. Select the mode that matches your setup. If you are unsure which mode to use, contact your Internet service provider (ISP) for guidance.

Step 5 - Enter the Device Password
You will be asked to enter the Device Password to access the device's settings. If this is your first time setting up the device, you will need to create a new Device Password at this point.
If your ISP has pre-configured the device, they may have already set a Device Password. In that case:
• Check the bottom label of the device — the password may be printed there
• Contact your ISP if the label does not show a password
Note: The Device Password is separate from your Wi-Fi password and is used to protect access to the router's admin settings.

Step 6 - Assign the Router to a Room
Select a room or location for this router from the list provided in the app, or create a custom name. The room you select will be used as the name for this router within the Aginet app, making it easier to identify in multi-unit setups.
Tip: Choose a name that reflects where the router is physically located, such as Living Room, Upstairs Office, or Garage. This will help you manage your mesh network more easily later on.

Step 7 - Select Your Internet Connection Type
Choose the connection type provided by your ISP. Common options include:
• Dynamic IP (DHCP) — most common; the router receives an IP address automatically
• PPPoE — used by some fibre and ADSL providers; requires a username and password
• Static IP — you enter a fixed IP address provided by your ISP
If your ISP requires a VLAN ID (common with some fibre connections), tap Advanced and enter the VLAN ID in the field provided.
Note: If you are unsure of your connection type or VLAN ID, contact your ISP before continuing.

Step 8 - Create Your Wi-Fi Network Name and Password
Set up your home Wi-Fi network by entering a network name (SSID) and a password. These will be the credentials your devices use to connect to the internet.
Tips for a strong Wi-Fi setup:
• Choose a unique network name that does not identify your home address or router brand
• Use a password of at least 12 characters with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols
• Avoid using personal information such as your name or date of birth in your password
Step 9 - Reconnect Your Phone to Your New Wi-Fi Network
Once your Wi-Fi network has been created, go to your phone's Wi-Fi settings and connect to the new network name you just created. Use the password you set in the previous step.
Tip: Your phone may prompt you to connect automatically if it detects the new network. Accept this if offered.

Step 10 - Setup Complete — Add More Units (Optional)
Your router is now fully set up and connected to the internet. If you have additional mesh units to add to your network, tap the Add Agent button on the completion screen and follow the in-app instructions to connect each additional unit.
Repeat the process for each additional unit. Once all units are added, they will work together to extend your Wi-Fi coverage throughout your home.
