How To Update Your Modem Firmware

How To Update Your Modem Firmware

Keeping your router's firmware up to date ensures you have the latest features, security updates, and performance improvements.

This guide covers both the TP-Link HX510 and TP-Link VX230v routers supplied by EZI Broadband.

1. Connect to your Modem

  • Make sure your computer or phone is connected to the router (via Wi-Fi or Ethernet).
  • Avoid performing updates over weak or unstable Wi-Fi.
  • If possible, use a wired (Ethernet) connection for best results.

2. Log in to your Modem

  1. Open a web browser.
  2. Go to http://tplinkmodem.net or http://192.168.1.1
  3. Enter your admin username and password (set during initial setup).

You'll now see your router's main dashboard.

3. Check for updates (automatic method)

  1. In the main menu, go to: Advanced → System Tools → Firmware Upgrade.
  2. Click Check for Upgrade.
  3. If a newer version is available, follow the on-screen prompts to install it.
  4. Wait for the router to reboot automatically — this can take a few minutes.

Once it restarts, your router will be running the latest firmware.

4. Manual update (optional)

If the automatic update doesn't work, you can install the update manually.

  1. Visit the TP-Link Support website and download the correct file for your model:
    • HX510 downloads
    • VX230v downloads
  2. In your router dashboard, go to: Advanced → System Tools → Firmware Upgrade.
  3. Click Browse or Upload, select the firmware file you downloaded, then click Upgrade.
  4. Wait for the update and reboot to finish — this may take several minutes.

Do not turn off your router during this process.

5. After updating

  • Reconnect your devices once the modem restarts.
  • Confirm your internet connection is working correctly.
  • If you experience any issues after the update, restart your router or perform a factory reset and reapply your settings.

Important notes

  • Do not power off the router during the upgrade.
  • Always use the correct firmware for your specific model (HX510 or VX230v).
  • A factory reset is not usually required, but may help if you notice performance issues afterward.
  • EZI Broadband routers receive occasional updates automatically; however, checking manually ensures you're always on the latest version.
