How to Reset My nbn® Connection Box (NTD)

How to Reset My nbn® Connection Box (NTD)

If your internet isn't working or your modem shows no signal, resetting your nbn® connection box — also known as a Network Termination Device (NTD) — can often restore your connection.

It's safe to do and doesn't delete any data or account settings.

Before you start

Check that:

  • All cables are connected securely to your nbn® box and modem.
  • The power cable is plugged in and switched on.
  • You've checked for any nbn® outages in your area first: www.nbnco.com.au/support/network-status

If there's an active outage, your service will reconnect automatically once it's resolved.

How to reset your nbn® connection box

The reset process differs slightly depending on your nbn® technology type. Find the instructions below that match your setup.

FTTP (Fibre to the Premises)

  1. Locate your nbn® connection box (usually installed inside your home).
  2. Find the reset button — it's a small pinhole on the front or side of the unit.
  3. Use a paperclip or pin to press and hold for 10 seconds.
  4. Release the button and wait about 2–3 minutes for the lights to stabilise.

When the Optical and UNI-D lights turn green, reconnect your modem.

FTTC (Fibre to the Curb)

  1. Unplug the power cable from your nbn® connection box.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Plug the power cable back in.
  4. Wait up to 5 minutes for the Connection and LAN lights to go solid blue.

If the lights stay flashing or off, try another power cycle or check your cables.

HFC (Hybrid Fibre Coaxial)

  1. Unplug the power cable from your nbn® HFC connection box.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Plug the power cable back in firmly.
  4. Allow 5 minutes for the Power, Downstream, Upstream, and Online lights to stabilise (they should all be solid).

If the Online light stays off or flashing after 5 minutes, contact Ezi Broadband Support.

Fixed Wireless

  1. Unplug the power supply unit (the black nbn® power injector) from the wall.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in and allow several minutes for the connection to re-establish.

Ensure the outdoor antenna cable is secure and undamaged.

After the reset

Once all lights are steady:

  • Turn your modem off and back on.
  • Wait for the Internet/WAN light to turn solid.
  • Try opening a website on a connected device.

If your modem lights remain red or orange, follow "Modem lights flashing red or orange" for further troubleshooting.
